Time Period Challenge: Ancient Mayan

Other than the Mayan calendar running out late last year to be honest I hadn't heard of the Mayan times. However after a spot of research I came up with this, based on the calendar. Clearly not as intricate as the original but enough for a nod in that direction.

12.21.12 is the date for the end of the Mayan calender. Now whether this is to be the end of the world Apocalypse style remains to be seen, especially as this is a scheduled post. 

However 21st December is winter solstice, in the Northern hemisphere, so is the end of my mini mani month calender! Let's celebrate the shortest day of the year and cheer to the longer warmer days that shall now come! Unless of course the Mayans were right and didn't run out of room to continue the calender...
